This pastel portrait was made during a period of movement — between work, travel, and the everyday rhythms that shape a life.
The interplay of tone and gesture here reflects a quiet presence that appeared gradually, often only becoming clear with distance and time.
My studio practice is intuitive, grounded in working with charcoal, pastels, and paint to translate what is sensed or noticed beneath the surface of things.
This process has become a way of staying oriented — a private space of equilibrium before the work moves outward into professional or public contexts.
Making, for me, is a conversation with the world rather than an explanation of it.
Each piece holds a moment of sustained attention : returning, refining, and allowing the image to settle at its own pace.

Michel Jaffrennou Collaboration, Year - 2014
Costume Design & Custom Hand-Embroidered Work
This collaboration took place during my years at the Cholamandal Artists’ Village, Chennai.
Michel Jaffrennou — one of the early video installation artists in France in the 1970s — was visiting the Village with his wife Catherine as guests of artist Velu Vishwanathan (Vishwa), with whom he shared a long-standing creative friendship.
During his stay, Michel prepared an informal theatrical performance for his 65th birthday.
I designed and created the costume for the piece, working through shared conversation, time, and the easy rhythm of the Cholamandal community.
This collaboration remains meaningful to me as part of an ongoing exchange within a larger artistic network — built through trust, continuity, and a shared attention to the work.

These works look closely at how form appears and disappears in light. Using chiaroscuro, charcoal builds the world first — soft, grainy shadows, quiet depths, and the suggestion of something just beyond sight. Colour arrives only where life insists: a petal, a leaf, a small object held in memory. The contrast is intentional — tender colour held inside a field of grey, like a thought that refuses to fade.
